Privacy Policy
Effective:
ChipVPN is a client for proxy servers that you configure. It does not collect personal data. This policy explains what the app keeps on your device and which requests it makes on its own.
What we collect
Nothing. ChipVPN contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or telemetry code, and it has no user accounts. We do not run any server that receives your traffic or information about you.
What stays on your device
To work, the app stores the following on your device only:
- your servers, subscriptions and settings;
- traffic counters for each server;
- a diagnostic log, kept for 7 days, with credentials removed.
The log leaves your device only when you export or share it yourself.
With the kill switch on, the VPN extension also keeps the settings of the running connection, readable only by the extension, so the system can restart the tunnel without the app. They are deleted when you disconnect or turn the kill switch off.
Your traffic
The VPN tunnel runs on your device and sends traffic only to the servers you configured. ChipVPN never records or transmits your browsing traffic or connection lists.
DNS queries are answered by the DNS servers set in the app: Cloudflare DNS over HTTPS by default, reached through your server. ChipVPN does not log them.
The operators of the proxy and DNS servers you choose handle your traffic under their own policies.
Requests the app makes on its own
These requests are functional. They carry no identifier or personal data; like any request, they reveal the IP address they come from.
- It downloads the subscription URLs you enter, to get your servers.
- It downloads routing rule files from
raw.githubusercontent.com. - After connecting, it looks up your exit IP address and country through your own server (
ipwho.is,icanhazip.com,ipify.org,ident.me), to show where traffic exits and whether the server supports IPv6. - It measures latency with a request to
www.google.com/generate_204through the server being tested. - On desktop, while the self-hosted node is on, its network check runs when the node starts, every ten minutes after that, and whenever you run it yourself. Each check sends the chosen port numbers to
probe.chipvpn.com, which tries to connect back to those ports and returns the result, and askswww.cloudflare.com/cdn-cgi/tracefor your public IP address. The probe service stores nothing and keeps no logs.
Platform differences
- iPhone and iPad: there is no self-hosted node, so the app never calls
probe.chipvpn.com. - Android: QR codes are decoded on the device by Google ML Kit. Google receives the SDK's performance and usage metrics, and the SDK may contact Google for updates and compatibility information.
- Android: the per-app proxy picker reads the list of installed apps on the device; the list never leaves it.
- Desktop apps downloaded from this site check
updates.chipvpn.comfor a new version shortly after launch and every six hours after that, and download updates from there. App store builds update through the store and never make this request. - If you install from an app store, the store handles download and purchase data under its own privacy policy.
Sharing
We do not sell or share data with anyone. We have none to share.
Deleting your data
You can delete servers, subscriptions and logs in the app at any time. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored.
This website
This site uses no cookies, analytics or scripts. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes request data such as IP addresses to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date.
The ChipVPN service
Besides the app, ChipVPN sells proxy service through its member portal at my.chipvpn.com. The app above still collects nothing. The service needs an account, so it keeps what running and billing it requires, and nothing more.
Your account
When you create an account we keep only your email address. Your name, billing address, company name and phone number are kept only if you add them to your account details. Your password is stored only as a salted hash. If you turn on two-factor authentication, we keep its secret encrypted.
We record sign-ins and account changes, with the IP address and browser they came from, to protect your account. Signed-in sessions are listed in your security settings, where you can end them.
You can also sign in from the Membership page of the ChipVPN app: the desktop app downloaded from this site, and the iPhone and Android apps. Opening the page fetches the plans on sale from the portal, without anything that identifies you. Signing in sends what you enter there to the portal, keeps the signed-in session on your device, opens payment pages in your browser, and adds each service's servers to the app. Each sign-in also sends the device's name, its platform and the app's version, which we keep with the IP address and approximate location (city and region) of the device's last sign-in, to enforce how many devices your plan allows at once. Your devices are listed in your security settings and on the app's Signed-in devices page, where you can sign one out or remove it. The Mac App Store build has no Membership page.
Payments
Invoices are paid through Stripe, PayPal, Alipay or WeChat Pay, which process your payment details under their own privacy policies. We never see or store card numbers or account passwords; we keep the amount, the date and the payment provider's transaction ID.
We keep invoices and their payment records for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Using the service
- For each service we count the bytes it sends and receives, per day, to apply its monthly allowance and show your usage.
- Our servers report the IP addresses connected to a service for a few minutes at a time, to enforce its device limit. These reports are overwritten as they arrive and deleted within a day.
- We do not log the sites you visit, your DNS queries, or the contents of your traffic.
Email and support
We send invoices, payment receipts and service notices by email through Resend, and keep a copy of each message so you can read it again in your email history.
Support tickets and the images you attach to them are kept with your account so we can follow up.
Cookies
The member portal sets only the cookies it needs: one for your signed-in session, one that protects its forms, one that remembers your language, and, if you arrived through a referral link, one that remembers the referrer for 90 days. It uses no analytics or advertising cookies.
Where it runs
The member portal and its data are hosted on Cloudflare (Workers, D1 and R2), which processes them on our behalf.
Your choices
You can update your details in the member portal at any time. To close your account and delete what we keep beyond the records the law requires, open a ticket or email us.
